[This is a response article to: LEE BEE WAH: THE TIGHTENING OF FOREIGN LABOUR MAY HAVE CAUSED THE JEM CEILING COLLAPSE][You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Is PAP MP Lee Bee Wah retarded blaming the JEM accident on the tightening of Foreign Talent Labour Policy?
The FTs are applying their outdated knowledge to manage the requirements in advanced and modern Singapore. As all the building construction areas are closed to public hence we Singaporeans, are unable to judge whether the engineers or inspectors found at the work sites carried out their duties.
The integrity of the FTs is to be asked on the number of buildings found to violate the building rules and regulations in their homeland. Their jobs are made easier by having more colleagues and subordinates of their kind who are here to reap economic gains. Many low-level workers are just happy to have long working hours so that they can have extra income. The high-level engineers and inspectors are comfortably enjoying the air-conditioner environment and adopting the strict 9-5 working hours as in their homeland.
Are the FTs around to supervise these workers working till “midnight”?
I notice the construction site directly opposite my apartment block with the construction workers working till “midnight”. At the beginning I called the police due to the noise created after 9 pm but no action was taken. Building rules are flouted to complete the project before the deadline.
We Singaporeans are being forced to accept the poor quality of work delivered. Many foreign workers are left unsupervised. They are holding their mobile phones on one hand and trying to carry out the tasks with only one hand. These foreign workers are enjoying the modern gadgets while working.
The cleaners driving the vehicle that carries the bin chutes at the “racing” speed and spilling the garbage onto the floor without picking and leaving them for the crows. Look at the number of crows or rats in our housing estates, the cleanliness level is due to the littering of Singaporeans.
Are MPs, like Lee Bee Wah, ready to defend themselves of the problems arisen due the cut in foreign workers?
The governing authorities fail to understand that resources are limited. Resources come in different grades, cheap resources are poorer grade resources. Cheap resources will cause many unforeseen problems over time, do learn from cheap milk powder problems. Planning for infrastructure should be carried out in phases to ensure good quality work.
The MRT tracks are unable to bear the weight of additional carriages and passenger load are wearing off fast. Are regular and replacement maintenance carried out over a shorter periodic time? Are the cheap resources qualify to carry out these maintenance works or the foreign talents able to manage the resources in optimal manner without breakdown as more frequent replacement maintenance is not carried out?
Any bet on the news on a building collapsed in near future?
