WHAT AN OPPOSITION MEMBER SHOULD DO AND SAY TO WIN SWING VOTERS OVER

Last month, some of us in our church club gathered together and talked about what swing voters expect from opposition politicians etc.

Many of us, I believe, are swing voters who may swing either side depending on the quality of the candidates, political party and their performance on the actual day of rally etc.

Below are some 5 ways in which opposition parties can do to persuade swing voters to vote for them. Any opposition party member should follow these tips.

1) Always Do Walk Abouts. Don't Leave It To the Last Minute.

Many SDP Candidates such as Dr Ang Yong Guan, Teo Soh Lung and Tan Jee Say parachute themselves at the last minute.

Opposition parties are already crippled by our mainstream press and People's Association etc don't work with them.

Swing Voters need to be familiar with them and their faces so they expect nothing less than a regular house visit at least one or two years before GE2016.

2) Always Have a Strong Alternative Voice. Objecting for the Sake of Objecting Turns People Off.

Everyone can complain and whine and bitch about any policy.

If that's so, everyone of us can be an opposition.

We need a credible opposition to be an alternative voice to solve our problems.

And even when you have an alternative proposal or plan.

Try to stick to it and don't flip-flop over the place or you would lose credibility.

3) Do Not Put Down Other Politicians. Let TRS Do The Putting Down for You.

Unethical advertising came to light when NTUC Income tried to downplay real estate agents as crooks while selling their own services.

It's bad taste and reflects poorly on your credentials.

Remember how WP MP Chen Show Mao drew some cartoons on his Facebook to ridicule PM Lee? Or how did Dr Chee Soon Juan yelled and screamed at Goh Chok Tong in GE2001? It will hurt you and backfire.

Always leave the putting down of PAP and dirty work to TRS readers. Social media is stronger than SPH.

We will do the dirty work for you as we are the silent majority and we will help you indirectly by throwing mud at PAP.

You, as an opposition party member, should be portrayed in a good light to get swing voters on your side.

4) If You Have Swore Before on Twitter or Posed with a Kate Spade Bag, You May Wish to Re-Consider Your Decision to Stand for Elections.

Your past will always come back to haunt you in some ways.

Nicole Seah was cornered by the media for swearing on Twitter many years ago before GE2011 and was shown the screen capture. So did Baey Yam Keng's selfie pictures which serve no purpose except his ego.

Remember the Tin Pei Ling Kate Bag saga?

Most swing voters don't like potential candidates to be flamboyant, rich or swore or be rude etc. If you are those type with a bad history, you may wish to reconsider your options and not ruin your party's chances.

5) Always maintain a Good Strong Presence on Social Media.

Walk-abouts are one thing but proposing strong alternative voices in social media are just as important.

Remember that we have Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook and Twitter.

Once you blog something important or have significant value, we TRS readers will magnify ten times to our swing voters to make your presence known online.

One good example is SPP Lina Chiam's response to the Gang Rape is After All Democracy in Action comment by PAP MP or Chiam See Tong's Youtube video response to White Paper 6.9 million.
